I built this shoe bench for my own home to add some extra storage and a bit of character to the room. The design is pretty straightforward: a painted plywood body topped with a Redwood surface. Since I couldn't find a single piece of wood wide enough for the top, I glued two Redwood boards together to get the width I needed. It’s built to be sturdy enough for sitting, while the sliding barn door provides access to the storage compartment underneath.
Because this was my first time working with sliding hardware, it was a bit of a learning process. While the concept itself is simple, it required a lot of precision and accuracy to get the mounting track perfectly aligned and the bench perfectly level. It was a project with a lot of moving parts, but it was a fun way to experiment with a more advanced type of carpentry.
